Calling all MG Rover owners
hi. My next door neighbour had their MG-ZR stolen off the drive last week. Aparrently (and this is only third hand), the police said there had been several stolen off the Oakalls. And because the cars are alarmed and immobilised, the theives must have dragged/pushed the car off the dive and then towed it away. That's no mean feat, as they would have to have got as far as my house (shared drive) and then done a hard right corner to get onto the road. Does anyone know if this is possible? Wouldn't the alarm have been going off? Any comments to this site or my e-mail address please. Submitted by darcyswan

Beware the Parking Attendants
Having been stung on several occasions by the Bromsgrove Parking Attendants I wasn't suprised to hear on GMTV that Bromsgrove District Council had sacked two attendants because they hadn't given out enough tickets. The two who were sacked were obvioulsy more reasonable than the others and had complained about putting tickets on emergency vehicles and those waiting for a few minutes. It is Bromsgrove's policy to get as much revenue from tickets as possible (as if they don't get enough in tax from us already). I have seen tickets on cars at 8:00am on a Sunday morning and even in residential areas outside people's houses. It appears that no where is safe. On a brighter note a local supermarket has offered the two attendants jobs, no thanks to the council. There is no remorse it appears so just be careful, although if you do get a ticket they can't give you another so you could just leave your car there all day so they get really annoyed.... PLEASE READ Another car key burglary on The Oakalls. Yes, another house has been entered unlawfully and the keys to the car/cars have been stolen. It is important that we all know what is going on and I would encourage others to reply to this thread if they or people they know have become a victim of crime. There are some simple precautions to take to minimise the risk of this sort of burglary happening. DO NOT leave your keys on the shelf next to the front door, or where they can be seen from a window. Car key burglary does not neccessarily mean the offender has to enter the house themselves but quite often they use impliments such as coat hangers to fish the keys through the letterbox. Some people will take windows out to get what they want. The best place for your keys is in your bedroom, either in a bedside table or locked securely away, maybe in a safe. It may sound extreme and troublesome, but, would you rather spend minutes locking them away or days dealing with the effect of being a victim. Also, if you have an alarm already fitted, use it. The alarm is there to make you aware of an intrusion. If it's on and you get broken into, the alarm will sound and normally the offenders will abandon their attempt. Some insurers will not pay out if you don't use the equipment you have declared to them. If you haven't got an alarm, get one. It could save you a lot of money and heartache in the end. At the very least fit dummy boxes to give the illusion of an alarm. This will reduce the risk but not diminish it. If you've got a garage, and it's not full of household items, use it. Quite often the determined car theif / house breakers just drive around to see what's on offer. The Oakalls is a great shop window for them especially if your prize possesion is left in full view. Car alarms and immobilisers are far better nowadays and this means the only way to steal the car is with keys. This is why so many homes are now broken into and only the keys or keys and car are being stolen. Please take a look at our website for 2002/2003 crime statistics for Bromsgrove. We are not immune. www.security-solutions.uk.com If you want any advice and / or a free security audit please ring free on 0800 587 5979 or mail me at info@security-solutions.uk.com Submitted by dro31

Sad to report another home on the estate has been burgled for the car keys to the family car. The keys were taken but not the car which was off premises. Entry was made via a sash window in the kitchen, beading removed and keys obtained using the washing line pole. It is unclear when the incident took place except it was within a 2 day period very recently. The home owners (who I have visited) are clearly distressed. Now is the time to avoid being a victim which causes distress to those concerned. Do not leave your keys in view of the outside world, on the stairs, a hall table or just thrown 'where you always leave them'. It is obvious that car key theft is still prevalent so protect what is yours - you work hard for what you have so why let some undesirable take it through your own negligence? Check your home for weak spots and also your own personal security. Better still, contact the experts. Security solutions are on the estate, offer free home security audits and will not charge you the earth. I have just upgraded my patio door security through SS for a very small amount as I felt I was vulnerable. I now feel a lot more secure. Interested in starting a NHW scheme - let me know - my time and advice is totally free. It does work - trust me! Peace of mind if nothing else. Submitted by Pastie

I thought 'you' may be interested as we pay a wacking council tax and should be enjoying the free programme of events including Music, Clowns & magic and Puppets in the Park. I have added some to the Calendar. Submitted by Leanne

I am told that planning are considering the erection of two telephone masts to support the new age video messaging services. Apparently the " distribution " range of concern is 50 metres . One on the Oakalls and the other near Brewsters. Anyone else heard that ?? Submitted by sydney

I received the following update from the planning dept at BDC today: I am afraid there is little to update you with on the application. It would appear from the independent advice received that the application is valid, however the issue needs to be looked at further. I have asked for further information from the applicants on various matters and I am awaiting response from them. The application will NOT be reported to the July Planning Committee Submitted by Marc and Julie
